Gosaikunda Lake is believed to have created by lord Shiva. When he thrust his trident in to a mountain to draw water so that he could cool his burning throat after swallowing poison. There is a large rock at the center of the lake, which is said to be the remains of the Shiva shrine. It is also said that the water from this lake disappears underground via a subterranean channel and surface in Kumbeshwor pool, adjoin to the five stored temple of Shiva in Patan.
Gosaikunda (altitude 4380 M.) is situated to the north of Kathmandu of the Langtang reason. The Holy Lake is two days trek from Dhunche (1950 M.) that is reached over adventures 118 Km mountain road from Kathmandu via Trisuli Bazar. About 10 of thousands of devotees make a pilgrimage to this lake on the on full moon day of middle of June to middle of August to take a ritual holy dips in the cold mountain water.
